One man is in custody today after three firearms were found downtown this morning.
Captain Mike Baker of the Zanesville Police Department says officers were called to the 600 block of Shinnick Street around 3:45 this morning.
“When we arrived, a number of people fled the scene,” he said. “The officers checked the area and found three firearms had been abandoned by whoever had left. One person who was still on scene was arrested for falsification.”
Officers searched the area, finding a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, 12-gauge shotgun, and .357 magnum revolver.
Baker says one of the three firearms were found to be stolen. He says the gun will stay in evidence and eventually make its way back to the owner.
“We don’t know exactly what was going on, but whoever called it in, considering the number of firearms we found, probably stopped some crime of violence occurring,” he said.
Baker says the man in custody is identified as 27-year-old Terrance Thomas of Columbus and is charged with a first degree misdemeanor for falsification. He says the man has not been helpful with the case.
The incident is still under investigation.
