Dog lovers will have a chance indulge in all things dog related on Sunday during “Love Your Dog Day” at Secrest Auditorium.
The event goes on from 12 to 5 p.m. and will feature pet vendors, demonstrations and seven animal rescue groups. Secrest Auditorium Manager John Kunkel says the best part is it’s all free.
“A lot of people like to get out and do something on Sunday, with the economy you can’t sometimes afford this. Come on down, spend some time and learn some more
about what goes on here in the county as far as the shelter the pound and all these wonderful rescue groups,” says Kunkel.
The animal rescue groups will have dogs on hand that are ready to going to a loving home. The groups have seen an increase in animals since the downturn of the economy.
“People are losing their homes, foreclosures, downsizing, they’re moving into apartments and condos that don’t allow animals. So they’re giving up their animals. People are looking for them, we’re moving animals all the time trying to find homes for them,” he says.
“Love Your Dog Day” will also have dog contests. Prizes will be given out in categories like best costume and owner/dog look-a-like.
