Jim Swartz Cancer Benefit

Local News

There’s a saying that goes “Family is Everything” the daughters of one local man recently diagnosed with cancer, are proving that to be true.

Jim Swartz, owner of ‘Swartz’s Tire & Muffler’ in Duncan Falls was diagnosed with lung cancer on June 15th. His daughters Kim and Brandi aren’t going to let that business close because of the high cost of cancer treatments.

“Being a small business owner it is very expensive to have health insurance, so he’s never really needed health insurance up until now and this process has become quite expensive. My sister and I just decided that we were going to do what we could do to help with some of the costs with the treatment.”

To help with the treatments, the ‘Jim Swartz Cancer Benefit’ is being held all day Saturday. A spaghetti dinner, live auction, games and cruise in to name a few will be going on.

“It has been a lot of work, but its kind of a work from our heart, its for our Mom and Dad, we just, it was the only thing we could do to help- it was just what we could do so we just started planning and it got a lot bigger than I think we had anticipated, we just thought it was going to be a spaghetti dinner. But I mean, everyone just loves our Dad.”

A lot of hard work they say is well worth it when it comes to their Dad.

“When I told dad that we were having the benefit, a tear rolled down his cheek and I told him, you know you have taken care of a lot of people for a lot of years and they just want to show you how much they care, so it really means a lot to them.”

The benefit will take place at The Barracks Youth Center at the Cornerstone Full Gospel Church in Duncan Falls Saturday from noon to 8:00pm.

— The spaghetti dinner starts at noon until they run out of food

— Cornhole registration is from noon to 2:00 with the tournament starting at 2:00.

— Live auction starts at 4:00
