Semi Overturns on US 22

Local News

Both lanes of US 22 are open again tonight after an afternoon accident.

It happened around one p.m.

“We had a semi traveling eastbound on 22. Another semi pulled out in front of him, coming off of Limestone Valley and Sidwell entrance. They connected. One semi went off the road and overturned, ” says Firefighter EMT Dustin Shipley.

Shipley says both drivers were taken to the hospital to get checked out. He says there weren’t any serious injuries.

ODOT, the State Highway Patrol, and three area fire departments responded to the incident.

Neither semi was carrying hazardous materials, but the semi that turned over did leave a mess on the road that kept crews busy for a few hours.

“We’re trying to get it unloaded. Sidwell Materials is up here unloading the back on the semi that was carrying multi-chip. We have to get it all cleared out before we can get the semi overturned. That way, we don’t cause a bigger scene, ” says Shipley.

A State Highway Patrol officer says the one driver was cited for not stopping. He says the driver’s failure to yield caused the collision.
