NBA Star Brings Skills Home

A hometown sports hero is back in Zanesville this week hosting a three-day basketball camp.

Kevin Martin, an NBA player for the Sacramento Kings and Zanesville High School alumni, is putting on the camp to teach 140 students how to become better basketball players.

“The kids are just out here having fun just learning the basic skills of basketball: passing, shooting, dribbling and then playing some one-on-one, two-on-two and five-on-five with each other,” says Martin.

The basketball camp in Sacramento Martin puts on yearly is so successful, he knew he had to bring a camp to his hometown.

“It always puts a smile on my face when I come back here, because you know you just see kids even at age seven or eight who know who you are and that’s pretty impressive. Everybody knows I always come back to my hometown and I just love it here,” he says.

The camp finishes up tomorrow. Martin says he hopes the young basketball players are able to go back to their school’s teams and show off the skills they’ve learned.
