Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says an early morning accident remains under investigation.
It happened around 1:45 a.m. this morning.
The State Highway Patrol, the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department, and Falls Township Fire Department responded to a fire at the West Muskingum Schools Administrative Center.
Falls Township Fire Chief JD Johnson says a driver and passenger were involved in a single car accident that hit the building. He says both individuals fled the scene, following the accident. He says the car then caught on fire, which in turn, caught the building on fire.
Johnson says it took crews about 15 minutes to put out the fire, which was mostly contained to the one side of the building. He estimates damages to be between 30 and 40 thousand dollars.
Lutz says criminal charges could follow this case, pending the investigation. He says the incident might be related to an earlier domestic dispute.
