Local Kids Work With National Coaches

It’s not every day kids get to work with prominent track coaches from around the nation.

But, thanks to Team Godspeed, a slew of Muskingum County children have that opportunity. The organization is holding the first Team Godspeed’s Track and Field Camp for kids ages two to eighteen.

“We just wanted to intrigue them a little bit and let them enjoy it and have fun,” said Events Director Christine Williams. “Usually at this age kids don’t have the hurdles and throws and the jumps. We’re trying to get them involved and to have that love for the sport and hopefully they’ll continue that passion.”

Williams says coaches from OSU, Purdue, Virginia Tech and Texas A&M made their way to the Zanesville High School track to coach. She says tomorrow they will have another special guest.

“We have a wonderful guest of honor who is Derek Adkins the 1996 gold medalist in the 400 hurdles,” she said. “He will be here tomorrow and Saturday at the track meet.”

Team Godspeed has held regular track meets during the summer for the last six years. Williams says her husband and friends started Team Godspeed to be able to share their track talents with those in the community.
