GEAR UP for High School

Incoming freshman at Zanesville High School were able to see what they can expect first-hand today.

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, or GEAR UP, hosted a transition program today for middle school students coming to high school this fall.

“We’re just kind of trying to prepare the students so that way they get a taste of the high school, they can walk around and get a tour of the high school, they participate in different activities, get to know each other and that way when they come here in the fall they’ll be prepared and more aware of what’s available to them at Zanesville High School,” says Heather Sands, GEAR UP director Muskingum County.

The goal of the program is to help students prepare to succeed in high school and in life.

“It’s going to help them prepare, not just academically in high school, but for life beyond high school, whether it be any type of college. When we say college we mean life beyond high school that could be vocational training, a technical school, a four-year school, any type of training beyond high school,” she says.

The GEAR UP summer transition program will have two more dates for students to participate, July 28 and August 4. Any incoming Zanesville High School freshman can attend. For more information go to www.mccf.org or call 453-5192.
