The Zanesvile Eagles Lodge is helping the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office with its canine unit.

It donated 20 thousand dollars so the Sheriff’s Office can pay to train its new dog, Kilo, and buy a fourth dog.

“We went last week and picked out a dog. His name’s going to be called Draco, and he is a fully trained dog already that costs $10,000. We were only able to get with the help of the Zanesville Eagles, ” says Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.

Lutz says the canine unit is of great help to officers on duty. In fact, this afternoon during a traffic stop, two men fled the scene on foot.

“We released Zero, and Zero caught his man. So, we had an apprehension today with one of the canines. So, it doesn’t happen every day, but there’s a lot of days that just getting the dog out of the car helps keep the officers safe and the public safe, ” says Lutz.

Lutz says his office accepted the money from the Zanesville Eagles Lodge in Columbus last Thursday.
