Three area teens will soon gather to receive their scholarships from Jaycees Public Golf Course.
It held its ninth annual 9-9-9 Scholarship Tournament today.
Jaycees Golf Course Chairman, Daryl Porter, says 41 teams of two participated, and he says it was one of the tournament’s highest turnouts. It was 65 dollars to play 27 holes of golf in three different formats. Plus, Porter says there were cash prize incentives.
“It’s pretty much the sole fundraiser that we use for our scholarship account, our community service scholarship. So, all the hole sponsors, the major sponsors of this event as well as some of the proceeds from the players today go right into our scholarship account, ” says Porter.
The scholarship recipients this year include, Margo Williamson from Philo High School, Olivia Maniaci from West Muskingum High School, and Zachary Shelton, who was home schooled.
Porter says the three recipients were named last Tuesday, and he says he hopes to round up the three recipients during the July Fourth Stars and Stripes on the River Celebration.
“At the same time, we felt we needed to honor a specific person in the community who had given back a lot, ” says Porter.
This year’s honoree is the Club’s Superintendent, Mitch Bowman.
Porter says Bowman was given a plaque this morning before the 9-9-9 Scholarship Tournament got underway.
